Just curious what everyone's favorite CDG album is. Mine changes from time to time but I guess if I had to pick one it would be Texas Sugar/Strat Magik.

"Tailspin Headwhack" is my fave. It took the blues into an interesting direction, melding it with some hip-hop type rhythms (which were new at the time). It also features some of the best CDG songs ever with incredible bassist John Jordan's songwriting at its peak. Unfortunately, it suffered from a ridiculous delay in release after the commercial success of the debut album "Texas Sugar/Strat Magik". This was an album that should have been recorded and released within a year of "Texas Sugar" (Chris said they were ready to go and had most of the songs written as well). When it FINALLY did come out (THREE years later) the landscape had changed - many of the radio stations that played "Texas Sugar" had now become part of the Clear Channel corporate conglomerate with its stifled playlists and dee-jays who could no longer take requests from fans. That and the label itself, Silvertone, didn't do much to promote it. Silvertone shortly thereafter dropped the Chris Duarte Group and many other "blues" artists as their parent company BMG decided to shift towards rap in a big way. The Japanese import of this wonderful album contains two extra tracks not found on the regular release, an alternate version of "Catch The Next Line" and a moving song called "Crash" that was dedicated to Walter Morgan, the drummer for the band Big Sugar, who died onstage as they opened for CDG. I love this album!

Texas Sugar has to be my favorite, but I love certain songs from every album. Amy Lee is great, One More Cup from Romp blows me away every time I listen to it... Brand New Day from Love is > Me, I can imagine that in a church setting almost, it's awesome... I like them all, but the first, still, is the best.

I don't know if this counts as a "Chris Duarte" album or not, but he is all over it like molten lava smothering a town, but John Jordan's "Only One" album is a sonic tour-de-force!!! Chris is completely insane on this album as are the other two monstrous players, John Jordan and "Frosty" Smith, and this album should be a must-have in every CDG fan's collection. Though "Tailspin" is still my favorite CDG album, "Only One" ranks a super-close 2nd. A truly unique album (especially in the way it was recorded - go to the CDG fan club website for interviews and stories about this album).

guess I'm the oddball. Love is greater than me is my alltime favorite. I love them all, but in a dessert island situation, if I could only have one cd, this would be it.

Another vote for "Texas Sugar". Its that raw Texas blues mixed with funk elements. Furthermore: a showcase for the tonal spectrum of the Fender Stratocaster!

I have to say my favorite is always his latest album I picked up. I loved Texas Sugar but also Tailspin Headwhack and Romp. Now I am absolutely lovin' the huge sound Chris gets in Blue Velocity. (that's as far as I own up to now) Really looking forward to the new album. On the demo video he is still going with that gigantic sound.
